These are the best chocolate chip cookies! I made them three ways: 1) regular chocolate chip, 2) with walnuts, and 3) with sea salt. They were all divine!
I have made this recipe into bars at http://box5737.temp.domains/~hbpialmy/chocolate-chip-bars/
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Yields 36 – 40 cookies
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 extra-large eggs, at room temperature
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 bag chocolate chips
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Cream the butter and two sugars until light and fluffy using a stand mixer on medium speed. Add the vanilla, then the eggs, one at a time, and mix well. In a separate bowl combine the flour, baking soda and salt together. Add the flour mixture to the butter/sugar mixture and mix on low speed until combined (don’t over mix!). Fold in the chocolate chips.
Using an ice cream scooper with scooper with 1 3/4 diameter, scoop the dough and drop onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Press down each one to flatten a bit. Bake for 15 minutes (cookies may appear underdone). Remove from oven and let cool completely.
Notes
For the walnut version, add about one cup chopped walnuts when you add the chocolate chips and stir.
For the sea salt version, after you scoop the cookie dough on the baking sheet and press down a bit, sprinkle the flaky sea salt on tom. I was timid and did not add enough (didn’t want these too salty). Next time I would definitely sprinkle on more.

Cookie Dough with Walnuts. I like to add a big walnut piece on top so I can tell the difference. |
