Aviation Cocktail

We have been drinking a bit more during the current pandemic. I bought David Lebovitz’s new book, Drinking French, and immediately went to the liquor store to restock our bar. Many of the recipes have ingredients I did not have.  I read through most of the book and purchased ingredients I felt would apply to many of the cocktails in the book ((e.g. Lillet blanc, Cointreau, maraschino liqueur, elderflower liqueur, vermouth).

I knew that the Aviation would be the first cocktail I tried.  I’ve had this cocktail in the past at bars and was eager to try it at home.  It did not disappoint!  If you google the Aviation most pictures show it as a purple cocktail but this was definitely blue as you can see.

Ingredients:
2oz London dry gin
3/4 oz freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 oz maraschino liqueur
1/4 oz liqueur de violette or crème de violette

Directions:
Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice.  Shake well and strain into a coupe glass.
